caribou Porcupine Caribou Herd at All Time High Fairbanks – The Porcupine Caribou Management Board (PCMB), an international game management body between the US and Canada, released numbers from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG) stating the Porcupine Caribou Herd of NE Alaska has a new high population of 197,000 animals.  The ADFG completed its latest aerial survey last year and made an unofficial calculation of the record high number.  The PCMP stated the previous survey that was done in 2010 found an estimated 169,000 animals showing significant growth in the last 3 years.
